GENEVA (Reuters) - Australia's plan to reopen detention centers on remote Pacific islands for asylum seekers and migrants who arrive by sea could violate their human rights and harm their mental health, the United Nations warned on Friday.
CANBERRA (Reuters) - Great fears are held for 67 people, presumed to be asylum seekers, on board a boat that has been missing since it left Indonesia more than a month ago and may have sunk, Australian authorities said on Tuesday.
JAKARTA/CANBERRA (Reuters) - An Australian navy ship was standing ready on Wednesday to help a boat carrying up to 180 people, presumed to be asylum seekers, authorities said, the third boat to send distress signals in the past three weeks between Indonesia and Australia.

A major rescue effort is under way after a boat carrying up to 200 asylum seekers capsized off the coast of Australia's remote Christmas Island, in an incident likely to again turn the spotlight on border control policies.
JAKARTA (Reuters) - A boat carrying about 200 suspected asylum seekers has capsized in Indonesian waters 120 nautical miles north of Australia's Christmas Island and many are feared drowned, authorities said on Thursday.
